ALUMINIUM CURTAIN WALL

Aluminum Curtain Wall Systems: Overview

Aluminium curtain wall systems are lightweight, non-structural cladding systems commonly used in modern architecture. They are designed to protect buildings from external elements while enhancing aesthetics and energy efficiency. These systems are attached to the building structure but do not carry any structural load other than their weight and the forces imposed by wind and seismic activity.

Types of Aluminum Curtain Wall Systems

1. Stick System

Components: Mullions, transoms, and glass panels are assembled piece by piece on-site.

Advantages: Suitable for small- to medium-scale projects.
Easier to transport and adjust on-site.

2. Unitized System

Components: Pre-fabricated panels that include aluminium frames and glass are assembled in the factory and installed on-site.

Advantages: Faster installation due to pre-assembly. Higher quality control during manufacturing.

3. Semi-Unitized System
Combines features of stick and unitized systems.
Components are partially assembled off-site and completed on-site.

4 . Structural Glazing System
Features: Glass panels are bonded to the aluminium frame using structural silicone.
Advantages: Seamless, sleek appearance. Maximizes natural light.

 5. Pressure Plate System
Glass panels are held in place using pressure plates and gaskets. Offers flexibility in accommodating thermal expansion and contraction.

Advantages

  1. Aesthetics:

    • Sleek, modern appearance with customizable finishes and colors.
  2. Lightweight:

    • Reduces the load on the building structure.
  3. Durability:

    • High resistance to weather, corrosion, and UV radiation.
  4. Energy Efficiency:

    • Supports thermal insulation and solar control technologies.
  5. Flexibility:

    • Adaptable to various building shapes and designs.

Key Components

  1. Aluminum Frames

    • Provide structural support for glass panels and other infills.
    • Resistant to corrosion, lightweight, and recyclable.
  2. Glazing Panels

    • Can be single, double, or triple-glazed for thermal and acoustic insulation.
    • Options include clear, tinted, or reflective glass.
  3. Gaskets and Sealants

    • Ensure weatherproofing and thermal insulation.
  4. Insulation Materials

    • Improve energy efficiency by reducing thermal bridging.
  5. Structural Performance:

Must withstand wind loads, seismic activity, and other environmental forces.

Thermal Insulation: Incorporate thermal breaks to minimize heat transfer.

Acoustic Insulation: Use laminated glass or additional layers for noise reduction.

Waterproofing: Ensure proper drainage systems to prevent water ingress.

System selection according to the project

There are a few important points to consider when choosing a system according to the project. These can help you optimize both your budget and the requirements of your project:

  1. Determining the Needs of the Project
Clarify criteria such as the size of the project, the purpose of use, durability requirements, and aesthetic expectations. These criteria form the basis for choosing the right system.
  2. Evaluating the Technical Specifications of the System
Compare the technical specifications of the system you are considering to the requirements of your project. For example, details such as energy efficiency, insulation properties, or ease of installation should be compatible with the project.
  3. Cost Analysis
When choosing a system, evaluate not only the initial cost but also total costs such as long-term maintenance, energy savings, and lifespan.
  4. Price/Performance Comparison
Determine the most suitable one in terms of price/performance by comparing existing brands and systems with similar features.

If you are undecided about choosing a system, consulting our company and receiving project-specific recommendations will be a great advantage for you. If you want us to make special recommendations for you, you can share more information about your project! 😊 Cephe@cephe.com.tr

Detail Drawings and Manufacturing Preparations

If you have a project and have already decided on the system to use, we can collaborate on site measurements, detailed project drawings, and manufacturing drafts. Partnering with us not only saves you time but also reduces costs while ensuring fast and efficient results. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your project is in expert hands.

Our Process

  1. Site Measurements (Röleve)
We perform on-site measurements to analyze the current conditions and gather precise data. Accurate site measurements prevent potential errors in later stages.
